Influence of anoxia tolerance on latent variables of free-radical oxidation dynamics after undergoing anoxia

A 5-minute-duration circulatory arrest was simulated under the general ether anesthesia on male albino random bred rats separated after the test into 3 groups according to their anoxia tolerance. The observation period lasted 35 days. In homogenates of heart tissues we specified the content of the products which are reactive with thiobarbituric acid, glutathione restored, the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase; catalase and superoxide dismutase activity was specified in erythrocytes; glutathione peroxidase and glutathione transferase activity, total antioxidant activity, content of products reactive with thiobarbituric acid were specified in the plasma. Statistical data processing was carried out by the methods of parametric and non-parametric statistics; the relationship between variables was assessed using multivariate statistical methods with the use of cluster and factor analysis. The activity of superoxide dismutase of erythrocytes and cardiac tissue plays an essential role in the physiological mechanism of resistance to severe hypoxia, requiring resuscitation. Cluster analysis is a promising statistical method for the physiology of extreme conditions, which can solve tasks of grouping indicators that allows detecting latent variables of a more general nature, and thus to further explore pathophysiological mechanisms of processes critical for the body
